He was known for his time playing as a shortstop in Major League Baseball for the Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, and Washington Senators. Versalles had a successful career, winning the American League Most Valuable Player award in 1965 and being a two-time All-Star. He was also known for his strong defensive skills and was a key player for the Minnesota Twins during the early 1960s. Versalles retired from professional baseball in 1972 and later worked as a scout for the Toronto Blue Jays. He is remembered as one of the notable Cuban players in Major League Baseball history.
