Thomas Nelson Jr. was an American planter, soldier, and statesman who played a key role in the American Revolution. Born on December 26, 1738, in Yorktown, Virginia, Nelson was educated in England before returning to Virginia to manage his family's plantation. He served in the Virginia House of Burgesses and as a delegate to the Continental Congress, where he voted for the Declaration of Independence. Nelson also served as a brigadier general in the Continental Army, fighting in several important battles, including the Siege of Yorktown. After the war, he continued to be involved in politics, serving as governor of Virginia from 1781 to 1782. Nelson passed away on January 4, 1789, leaving behind a legacy as a patriot and leader in the fight for American independence.
